Sunday Salon: Not quite a year-end review

I wrote my first Sunday Salon post today before reading everyone else's, so I didn't realize that all the other bloggers were doing 2008-in-review posts. I don't have much to say about 2008 reading-wise because I didn't renew my commitment to reading until October. However, I'm amazed that in such a short time I managed to create a TBR list of 119 books! I also read about 25 books during that time. Not too long ago, I thought the goal of reading 100 books a year was outrageous, but now I see that I could do it myself in 2009 if I keep up this pace.

Besides reading more books, the types of books I'm reading has changed. For the past several years, I've read predominantly YA books. That was partly because I was homeschooling my daughter and partly because I was tired of all the sex in adult books. This year, my reading list has been dominated by Christian romances and books about food. I've enjoyed these genres, but I think I will try to diversify my list in the new year.

Thanks for posting on my blog. I finished my cookbook and it was an enjoyable read. You're right - reading about food is a good thing!

Happy New Year!

Have you tried the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith? You might enjoy them. All the best for the New Year

I used to think the goal if 100books per year was crazy too, but now I can see that happening :)

I haven't read any of the "No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" books yet because I know that the BBC is planning to make movies from them. I tend to be an either/or person when it comes to books and movies based on them. I saw the first movie with Jill Scott and I can't wait to see the others.

However good the films are, the language of McCall Smith is not to be missed, and they are gentle comfort reads, and not all that long

A hundred books a year is still a little out of reach for me, but this year I did manage to read almost fifty. I like your phrase about renewing your commitment to reading - that's sort of what I've done this year, too. And blogging has really helped. Happy New Year to you, and Happy Reading!
