About This Blog

My name is Dani, and I'd like to welcome you to my blog. I am a wife, a mother, and a part-time student in search of creative outlets. I didn't have many book-loving friends when I started this blog, so I thought it would be a good way to flex my writing muscles and share my thoughts after finishing a book.

Why "Average Gal Reads"?

When I started this blog many years ago, I had kids in elementary school and I still called myself a girl. I wanted to convey the feeling that I am not a professional writer and that these book reviews would not take the form of deep analysis. However, I am now "a woman of a certain age" whose children are all adults. It occurred to me that the name "Average Gal Reads" might confuse readers into thinking that I am a 20-something or that the blog focuses on the young-adult genre. If that is what you were expecting -- sorry! Despite my advancing age, I still feel that the name fits. I'm just your average gal next door reading genre fiction and telling you about the titles that I think are worth your time.

What will you find here?

I want to let you know upfront that I read a lot of romance. That's not the only thing I read, so don't close that tab just yet! I'm open to reading other genres such as paranormal, historical, and women's fiction, but romance novels are my go-to choice for relaxation and stress relief. However, if you see a review of anything that qualifies as literary fiction, then I either read it by accident or I was going through a highbrow phase!
