Despite the fact that last week was a holiday week, I got a lot of reading done. I read a YA novel, a Christian romance, and a cooking memoir. I also perused two cookbooks. All this reading brought up the question in my mind again of where I should post my reviews.I have an account on Goodreads, which I use regularly to keep track of what I want to read and what I've already read. It also gives me the ability to post a lengthy review of each book on their site and to post the same review on my blog. All I have to do is type the review in the Goodreads form and then cut and paste the HTML code into my blog. Easy-peasy!
My conflict is whether I should post my review on Goodreads. Using the Goodreads-generated code is a simple way to get a photo of the book cover onto my blog. However, if I am posting all my reviews over there, then why would anyone bother visiting my blog? On the other hand, I want to have a well-rounded profile on Goodreads. I've seen a lot of profiles where people list the books they've read but don't comment on what they've liked or disliked about them, and I don't feel the need to go back to them. If someone takes the time to befriend me on Goodreads, I want them to get something out of it.
I've been trying to come up with a compromise of sorts. I've thought of posting a review on my blog and then posting a link to it on Goodreads, but I'm not sure how many people would actually bother to click over. Maybe I will only post my review on Goodreads if the book doesn't have a lot of reviews there. Perhaps I will post impressions on Goodreads only for books that don't warrant a deep discussion (like most light romances or knitting books) and then post reviews for deeper books on my blog only. I've been doing a mish-mash of all of this, but I'd like to come up with a set guideline for myself.
For those of you who have accounts on Goodreads or LibraryThing or other inventory sites, what do you do? Have you been ignoring the review function totally in favor of your blog or do you split your reviews between both?

This is an interesting question. I don't usually read reviews on Good Reads, although I do have an account. But I do read lots of reviews on blogs.
What I usually do is post to my blog first, then post a shortened version of the review on Good Reads.
It works for me.
