Sunday Salon: Author Loyalty

I've been working on updating the "read" shelf of my Goodreads account. It isn't a process that I could complete at one go. Since most of the books I read are borrowed from the library, I don't have a stack of books here that I can look at. I am adding books as I remember them. That's why I didn't remember my Tom Robbins obsession until yesterday.

Perhaps "obsession" is too strong a word, but I did have a thing for Tom Robbins. I was introduced to his books by the house mother of my dorm when I was 18. Readers of my main blog know that I've gone through phases that were dominated by different decades in pop culture, and during the mid-1980s I was going through my 1970s phase. Tom Robbins' books with all their sexually charged, hippy-dippy prose fit right in.

To date, I've read six of Tom Robbins' books. That may not seem like a lot, but it is a lot for me. I don't usually follow an author unless I am reading a series. Robbins is the only author I remember looking forward to. He is also one of the few authors where I've read his books more than once. My ardor didn't cool until Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas. That may have had more to do with my state of mind at the time than Robbins' writing. I had a husband and a two-year-old to look after; I couldn't get myself into the right mood to enjoy Robbins' style.

All this brings me to my Sunday Salon question: What author's work have you read the most of? Don't count series, of course. Do you still like that author, or was it just a phase?
