Teaser Tuesday: "Dash & Lily's Book of Dares" by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan

This passage gives you a perfect sense of the book's tone. I knew I had to share it as soon as I read it. Luckily, I read it on Teaser Tuesday!

Collation was, of course, the new Pixar animated movie about a stapler who falls helplessly in love with a  piece of paper, causing all of his other office-supply friends to band together to win her over. Oprah Winfrey was the voice of the tape dispenser, and an animated version of Will Ferrell was the janitor who kept getting in the young lovers' way.

I'm not done reading, but I already feel confident in recommending this book. The first 50 pages have been fun.

This book is the 2nd book in the Fifty Shades trilogy. If you are familiar with the buzz about these books, then you know it was pretty tough to pick a passage that was interesting without being indecent!

My current read is actually a picture book called Squids Will Be Squids by Jon Sciezska. I couldn't decide which of my books I wanted to read, so I grabbed one from the kids' stack. It is a book of modern fables. Here is my teaser:

Moral: You should always tell the truth. But if your mom is out having the hair taken off her lip, you might want to forget a few of the details.

My teaser:

The surreptitious way people revealed their deviations to me indicates how thoroughly we have been conditioned: to risk smelling like a human is a misdemeanour, and the goal is to smell like an exotic fruit (mango, papaya, passion fruit) or a cookie (vanilla, coconut, ginger). The standard we read about in magazines and see on television is a sterilized and synthetic one, "as if we're not on this earth," a male friend remarked, but it takes some courage to disregard it.

Teaser Tuesday: 07 Sep 2008

Here I am, back with another Tuesday Teaser! Today's teaser comes from Comfort Me with Apples: More Adventures at the Table by Ruth Reichl. I'm going to cheat a little and use more than two sentences because I think this exchange is funny.

"Try this," said Colman, offering a platter of sliced, fried meat.

"What is it?," asked Mark.

"Try it," urged Colman. Mark took a tentative taste. "Bull's balls," said Colman.

Mark glared balefully at the platter. "I have to have something that I won't eat," he said, taking a big gulp of wine. Sputtering, he spat it out.

"That bad?," asked Jonathan.

"No," said Mark, "but it's not Baby Jesus sliding down your throat in velvet slippers."

That passage came from page 286 of Ruth Reichl's engaging memoir. I almost finished with it so I should be posting my impressions of it soon.

This is my first time participating in Teaser Tuesday. I found it on the Should Be Reading blog. I'm hoping that joining some of these book blog activities will keep me on my toes and get me back into the rhythm of reading daily.
